We Specialize in School Music Rentals
Since inexpensive
musical instruments made overseas have found their way into the market
through the internet and other discount stores, not all instruments
offered for sale by some businesses are playable, tunable , or
repairable, even though they might have the outward appearance of a
nice, new musical instrument. While lower prices are tempting, you
should consider that poorly constructed instruments play poorly,
hindering a student's ability to learn and even frustrating her to the
point that she will give up playing the instrument.

Repair technicians:
You will want to make sure your saxophone has been
looked over by an instrument repair technician who will check the
condition of all the pads and insure that all the pads seal tightly.
Any air leakage will adversely affect the clarity of the tone
production. Low and high registers of the instrument will be checked
for pitch. All keys will be checked to make sure they move with ease.
Spring tension is also checked to insure proper resistance and key
closure.
Note: Used
and rental return saxophones at Dorsey Music are inspected, repaired, and
play-tested by our qualified service technicians. They are also cleaned
and the mouthpieces disinfected before they are offered for sale. We
guarantee our used saxophones for 90 days. New saxophones have a one year
guarantee against manufacture defects.
Materials & Composition:
Student level saxophones are made up of yellow brass. Intermediate to professional saxophones are made up of higher grades of materials and require detailed hand labor. Any student
level saxophone that is purchased at Dorsey Music can later be upgraded to
an intermediate or professional instrument.
Care & Maintenance of a saxophone:
-
Make sure to assemble your instrument in such a way that
keys are not bent.
Be especially careful of keys that “bridge” across
joints.
-
After playing the instrument, be sure to always swab the moisture out of the bore of the instrument. This will extend
the life
of the pads and prevent unpleasant odors.
-
Never force the mouthpiece
on the neck. Apply
a little cork grease on the cork
with the tip of your finger then place the mouthpiece on
the neck.
-
Cork grease should not be used on the neck tenon. If
it becomes difficult to place the neck in the body, take the
instrument
to a certified Dorsey Music repair technician.
-
Place end plug in body socket before placing saxophone in its case.
.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT IN YOUR CAR.
