When to consider upgrading a clarinet:

- when the player exhibits a marked interest in

continuing to study and perform

- when intonation becomes a problem

-when repairs become excessive

-when playing more technical passages

- desiring improved playability and quicker response

- entering high school level or college

-when the instructor is desiring a higher level performance

-when desiring better tone and tonal colors

Intermediate to advanced level clarinets are most often made of wood to produce a rich, unique sound, tone, and resonance.  The most popular wood is Grenadilla wood.  Advanced players choose different bells and barrels to customize their sound and style.  Each bell and barrel will respond with different timbres and attack qualities.  For example, cocobolo wood gives a darker, broader tone and response.  We carry bells and barrels of different woods and shapes to allow you to customize your desired sound.

Wood clarinets should not be used for marching band, as they do not respond well to extreme temperatures.  Temperature fluctuations can cause cracking, which in turn can ruin the instrument.

We also carry various brands of mouthpieces with different tip openings and facing.  Upgrading the mouthpiece is as important as upgrading the clarinet, as a high quality mouthpiece will allow for a richer tone and ease of playing in upper and lower registers.

We also carry bass clarinets and have access to alto and contra bass clarinets.
