Professional & Upgrade Instruments

We Specialize in School Music Rentals

Since inexpensive musical instruments made overseas have found their way into the market through the internet and other discount stores, not all instruments offered for sale by some businesses are playable, tunable , or repairable, even though they might have the outward appearance of a nice, new musical instrument.  While lower prices are tempting, you should consider that poorly constructed instruments play poorly, hindering a student's ability to learn and even frustrating her to the point that she will give up playing the instrument.

Repair technicians:
You will want to make sure your trombone has been looked over by an instrument repair technician who will check the condition of the slides and tubing.  Any dents will adversely affect the clarity of the tone production.  Low and high registers of the instrument will be checked for pitch.  The slides will be checked to make sure they move with ease.

Note:  Used and rental return trombones at Dorsey Music are inspected, repaired, and play-tested by our qualified service technicians.  They are also cleaned and the mouthpieces disinfected before they are offered for sale.  We guarantee our used trombones for 90 days.  New trombones have a one year guarantee against manufacture defects.

Materials & Composition:

Student level trombones are made up of brass.  Intermediate to professional trumpets are made up of higher grades of materials and require detailed hand labor.  Any student level trumpet that is purchased at Dorsey Music can later be upgraded to an intermediate or professional instrument.

Care & Maintenance of a trombone:

Remove slides gently and place slides and body of instrument in warm bath water (never hot).  Both the inner and outer slides should be flushed out with lukewarm water, and then swabbed out (scrubbed) with the flexible “snake” brush. Rinse them out with clean water and wipe them dry with a clean lint-free cloth. (Always be careful when handling the inner and outer slides not to bend, bow, or dent them in any way. It is costly and time-consuming to repair bent, broken, bowed, or dented slides.)

Re-lubricate the slide before reassembling it.  Apply a generous amount of slide oil on playing slide, and grease to the tuning slide.

Note:  After playing, wipe down instrument with a lacquer finish polishing cloth or silver polishing cloth if the instrument is silver/nickel plated.

PLEASE, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT IN YOUR CAR.
